Adea Pass

ADEA Pass is the passage of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. In the statement contained in the act, congress noted that older workers were being denied jobs at a much higher rate than younger workers. They also found that workers were being forced to leave their jobs, or fired, in order to reduce the benefits owed these workers. Furthermore, older workers who were still very productive were being turned down for promotions and managerial positions which would have offered them higher pay and benefits. An earlier law had been passed to try to stop discrimination based on race, sex, religion and national origin but there had been no mention of age. The ADEA rectified this situation. Although the word "discrimination" is a household word anymore, many people do not realize how much the older worker is discriminated against. Some types of discrimination seem to get all of the press but discrimination in any form is wrong and should be reported and made right. The due process for filing a complaint and getting it processed can be a long and complicated one. It is best to seek the aid of someone who is knowledgeable about ADEA and EEOC.
