Age Discrimination Act Of 1975

The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits age discrimination based in programs that receive federal assistance, such as colleges and other federally funded programs. This legislation is enforced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and is not managed by the EEOC. This act does not cover employment discrimination. Under the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, you are allowed to file a complaint with the OCR whenever you believe you have been discriminated against by a federally funded program because of your age. If you have received no response from the OCR in 180 days or if the OCR has ruled in favor of the recipient of the complaint, you may then file a complaint in federal court. The legislation also prohibits retaliation against any person filing a complaint by the recipient of the complaint. All complaints must be filed within 180 days of the alleged offense in order to be considered by the OCR.
