Age Discrimination Suits

Age discrimination suits are at an all time high since December 2007 ヨ the beginning of the most recent recession. Since that time, over 5 million jobs have been lost in the US. And, as employers attempt to cut costs as drastically as possible, many may have looked to their older employees, whose salaries are higher, as potential cuts. And, while there may be many cases where older employees needed to be cut because their jobs were not as necessary or because their performance was not up to par, there are many ex-employees who believe themselves to be victims of age discrimination during this recession. The EEOC is the federal agency responsible for enforcing legislation that prohibits job discrimination on the basis of age. The particular laws governing this sort of discrimination fall under the ADEA (Age Discrimination in Employment Act). If you believe you have been the victim of age discrimination, you may file a complaint with the EEOC. If you win your case against your employer, you may be entitled to job reinstatement, back pay or damages.
