Eeoc Complaint

The EEOC stands for the Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint. The EEOC basically makes it illegal to discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age. Anyone who files a complaint is protected from retaliation. The remedies which may be enforced as a result of an EEOC complaint include being placed in the employment position that was denied, back pay, compensatory damages. The EEOC also encourages that posters be prominently displayed to advise employees of their rights regarding Equal Employment Opportunity. Complaints must be filed within 45 days of the discriminatory action. Filing a complaint is not a quick moving process. The initial process can last from 30-90 days and then if a formal complaint is filed, the judge has 180 days to act, so it can be a lengthy process to say the least. Despite the number of laws and acts that have come out to protect citizens from age discrimination, it does still occur in large numbers. There needs to be clear cut lines on what does and does not constitute discrimination. As with any legal process, you are within your rights to hire an attorney to help you navigate through the process.
