Eeoc Title Vii

Title VII is the law that governs most discrimination and harassment in the workplace. The law covers discrimination based on sex, age, race, color, national origin, religion, pregnancy, sex stereotyping and disability. Currently the law does not specifically cover discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, however, federal legislation adding discrimination based on sexual orientation has been proposed in recent years. It currently has the backing of many Democrats in Congress, as well as the President. It is important to note that EEOC Title VII covers harassment as well as discrimination, making it illegal to create and uncomfortable or "hostile environment" for an employee based on their sex, age, race, color, national origin, religion, pregnancy or disability. This part of the statute has come more to the forefront in the years following the senate confirmation hearings on Justice Clarence Thomas, who was accused of sexual harassment by female employees. In spite of the allegations, Thomas was confirmed to the Supreme Court.
