Hiring Age Discrimination

Discrimination concerning age in the hiring process is one of the most difficult to prove. There are so many variables and the applicant is usually unfamiliar with the company to begin with. However, cases have been tried and won concerning hiring age discrimination. In recent months, several news stories have told of workers in their higher 50's winning lawsuits because they were not hired due to their age, so it can be done. There are those who offer advice for older workers applying for jobs. They recommend that you leave off any graduation dates. Also, you do not need to list every job you have ever had. Note only the jobs that are most relevant to the job to which you are applying. Emphasize your current skills particularly if they are newer skills being used in the workplace. This shows that you are not resistant to new technology. Of course, it is sad that anyone would have to doctor their application in order not to be discriminated against but it doesn't hurt to give yourself the edge.
